Lura Schwarz Smith -

Student Work
This is Janis Stob's in-progress portrait of her husband gardening. She combines lots of techniques in this piece. She uses inking techniques on the figure, and on the face of the three-dimensional sun, which is slightly stuffed and has projecting parts. For the background, she uses free form piecing with velvets and satins as well as cottons, and uses a distorted pinwheel block.

Traditionals Transformed: Give an old favorite a new twist - take a traditional block and tweak it. Class time will be mostly spent on learning to distort blocks and learning the patternless freeform piecing technique.
