This quilt top Laura Koehler finished in class during the Asilomar 2003 "Art Images to Fabric" workshop. The original photo for the project is in the upper left, and several of her completed face-shading exercises are pinned up around the piece. She used inking and shading techniques on the figure, and free-form piecing for the background.

Faces in Fabric: a workshop for those who are interested in a more specific look at rendering the human face convincingly in fabric, no matter what your drawing skills may be. Traditionals Transformed: Give an old favorite a new twist - take a traditional block and tweak it. Class time will be mostly spent on learning to distort blocks and learning the patternless freeform piecing technique.
