For this portrait of a man standing in front of the ocean, Jean Jurgenson used freeform curved piecing for the waves. She also changed the color of her subject's shirt to red so it would show up better against the background.

Designing Art Quilts: Bring a photograph or simple drawing and learn to design your own art quilt pattern. All skill levels are welcome, and the words "I can't draw!" are outlawed.
Traditionals Transformed: Give an old favorite a new twist - take a traditional block and tweak it. Class time will be mostly spent on learning to distort blocks and learning the patternless freeform piecing technique.
